2012 in rail transport

This article lists events related to rail transport that are currently scheduled to occur in 2012. Please be aware that the actual dates that these events occur on may differ substantially from what is shown here.

Events

• 14 January – Construction is expected to be completed on the Marina Bay Extension of the Circle MRT Line.^[1]
• 31 January – First Group/Keolis' First TransPennine Express franchise, First TransPennine Express, expires
• 4 February – National Express's East Anglia franchise expires
• 31 March – GoVia's Integrated Kent franchise, Southeastern and First Group's Thameslink/Great Northern franchise, First Capital Connect, expires
• 30 April – Construction is expected to be completed and service commencing on the AirportLink line of the Miami Metrorail, extending service to to Miami International Airport via Miami Central Station^[2]

Unknown date events

• – Edinburgh Trams Light Tramway scheduled to open.
• – SNCF opens LGV Rhin-Rhône.
• – Opening of Omaha Steetcar Phase 2
• – Construction is expected to be completed on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Expo Line to the Santa Monica pier.
• – Construction was expected to be completed on New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority's East Side Access project to bring Long Island Rail Road trains into Grand Central Terminal.^[3] Date has slipped to 2016.^[4]
• – Construction is schdueled to begin on the Downtown San Francisco Extension, which will extend the Caltrain line 1.3 miles (2.1 km) from the current terminus at 4th & King (close to AT&T Park) to Downtown San Francisco's Transbay Transit Center. If approved, the California High Speed Rail system would use this extension as their San Francisco terminus. The extension is scheduled to open in 2019.
• – Construction is expected to be completed on three extensions of Calgary, Alberta's light rail transit system, the C-Train. The new West leg, along with the two extensions on the Northeast and Northwest lines, will add about 12.8 kilometres (8.0 mi) of new track, and nine new stations.
• – Reopening of Saint Paul Union Depot in Minnesota to regularly scheduled train traffic. The depot last saw trains on 30 April 1971, the day before Amtrak began operation.
